Matt's Maker Space recently sponsored a Professional Development Training for teachers in Western Pennsylvania at the Education Partnership in the West End. The Education Partnership is a nonprofit that puts basic school supplies in the hands of teachers and children, empowering the students to learn, grow and strive for a brighter future. They serve over 118,000 local students every year. Through a generous grant, Matt's Maker Space contracted the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh to design and offer two classes: Recycled Sculpture/Recycled Materials Exploration and intro to Cricut. 50 teachers attended the sessions offered over two days. All materials were provided as well as Act 48 credit. The classes were offered for free to all qualifying teachers.
The trainings were highly successful. An example of what can happen with collaboration, these trainings were provided through the successful partnership of three separate non profit entities. All of the member schools of The Education Partnership as well as all of the Matt's Maker Space teachers were invited to attend.
We are hoping to provide more opportunities like this for all of our Matt's Maker Space locations.
